How it works
For roofing contractors and homeowners who need to show a storm actually hit before filing a claim or pushing back on a denial. Type the address or town and the date of loss, and pick hail, wind, tornado or any storm. Storm Date Finder searches public storm reports from NOAA's Storm Prediction Center, the NOAA Storm Events Database, National Weather Service offices and local news, and lists every report it finds with the date and time, hail size in inches or wind speed, the place and distance when it's clear, the report's remarks and a link to the source. The app sorts them, highlights the reports within a day of the date of loss, and pulls out the biggest hail and strongest wind reported. You also get practical notes for the claim. Public reports can miss small storms, so for a disputed claim it suggests a certified weather report for the exact address. If nothing turns up, you aren't charged.
