How it works

For owner operators, hotshot drivers and small fleet owners who want to know the lowest rate they can take and still make money. Enter how many miles the truck runs a year, your miles per gallon and diesel price, your truck and trailer payments, insurance, permits and plates (IRP, UCR, the 2290 heavy vehicle use tax, IFTA), maintenance and tires per mile, ELD and phone, parking, and what you pay yourself or a driver per mile. Haul Cost Per Mile splits it into running costs that come with every mile and fixed costs you pay whether the wheels turn or not, then gives your true all in cost per mile and your cost to run the truck for a year. It works out the number that matters at the load board: your breakeven rate per loaded mile, after your empty deadhead miles and any factoring fee. Add a profit goal and it shows the rate to hold out for. You'll see where every cent of each mile goes and how your cost per mile drops if you run 60,000 to 140,000 miles a year.
