How it works
For HVAC techs, home inspectors, real estate agents and homeowners who need to know what a unit is and how old it is. Take a photo of the data plate (the rating label with the model and serial numbers) on an outdoor condenser, heat pump, furnace, air handler or packaged unit. HVAC Data Plate Reader reads the brand, type, model and serial numbers, the refrigerant and factory charge, volts and phase, minimum circuit amps and maximum breaker size, the capacity in BTU per hour, and any efficiency rating. The app works out the size in tons and the unit's approximate age from the manufacture date, printed on the plate or decoded from the serial number when the brand's format is well known. It flags what matters for a repair or replace decision: R-22 systems that are expensive to recharge, R-410A systems now that new equipment uses newer refrigerants, and units past the typical 12 to 15 year life. Characters that can't be read are listed, never guessed.
